The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, is optimistic that a debate on the report on the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 will take place when Parliament resumes from recess. The bill seeks to criminalize LGBTQ activities, establish proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values, outlaw LGBT-related activities, and protect and support children. The Constitutional Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has recommended that the bill be passed, subject to amendments, which is a positive step for the bill’s sponsors. If the President fails to assent to the bill, two-thirds of the members of Parliament can vote in favor of the bill to be passed into law.
