Dr. Kwabena Duffour, the former finance minister in the erstwhile John Evans Atta-Mills administration, is receiving massive support from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates in the Northern Region, ahead of the party’s upcoming flagbearer contest on May 13, 2023. The NDC delegates in Tamale South constituency welcomed Duffour with a massive crowd, visibly demonstrating their support for him as their preferred choice for the NDC flagbearer.
During his tour of the Northern Region, Dr. Duffour emphasized that he is the best person in the three-man race to lead the party to victory in 2024. He also pointed out that the current government has paid little attention to the plight of Ghanaians in the midst of the ongoing economic crisis. Duffour promised to turn the economy around to ensure Ghanaians can heave a sigh of relief.
A member of Duffour’s campaign team, Yaw Boateng Gyan, urged the delegates not to pay attention to those who claim that nobody should contest former President John Dramani Mahama. He added that Duffour is one of the founding fathers of the NDC and is qualified to contest to lead the party at the highest level. Gyan also emphasized that Duffour’s contributions to the party, especially as finance minister in the NDC administration, were immense and that, as flagbearer, he would lead the party and the country to progress and prosperity.
Duffour has been touring the Volta, Oti, and Northern Regions, and he is expected to proceed to the North East and Savannah Regions to meet with NDC delegates. However, he faces competition from former President John Dramani Mahama and former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, in the NDC flagbearer contest.
In summary, the warm reception and massive support Duffour received from the NDC delegates in the Northern Region may serve as a significant boost for his candidature in the party’s flagbearer contest. Duffour’s promises of turning the economy around and ensuring Ghanaians have a sigh of relief, coupled with his immense contributions to the NDC party, may endear him to more NDC delegates and strengthen his chances of winning the flagbearer race.
