Former Deputy Communications Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye has expressed his doubts about the motivations behind former Agric Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s presidential aspirations. Speaking in an Alhaji & Alhaji interview monitored by SweetFMOnline, Kwakye Ofosu stated that he is puzzled by Akoto’s decision to run for the country’s highest office.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, Akoto’s journey towards the presidency is a “journey to nowhere” and that sometimes people should not waste their time on such endeavours. He added that he has never understood why individuals pursue such endeavours when the outcome is uncertain.
The former deputy minister went on to suggest that Akoto may not have a realistic chance of winning the presidency, stating that he does not believe Mr Owusu-Afriyie Akoto will be able to stake a claim for the position in future electoral cycles.
Kwakye Ofosu’s comments have sparked a heated debate among political observers, with some agreeing with his assessment and others arguing that anyone has the right to aspire for the presidency.
The Afriyie Akoto Campaign has yet to respond to Kwakye Ofosu’s statements, but it is clear that the former deputy minister’s remarks have added fuel to the ongoing discussions about the presidential race.
The NPP presidential primary is scheduled to take place in the near future and it remains to be seen how the political landscape will unfold. As the race heats up, it will be interesting to see how the candidates, including Mr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, position themselves and their campaigns in the coming months.”
